Bored of sitting at home on summer afternoons? Well go kayaking. If you are looking for some adventure on a summer afternoon it has to be a water sport. Kayaking is a lot of fun and a welcome respite from the summer heat. A kayak is a five feet long boat that has a closed cockpit and uses a two blade paddle. White water kayaking refers to taking a kayak down a rapid flowing river. Sea kayaking or ocean kayaking refers to taking a kayak out in to the ocean or even a lake.

If you love adventure sports you could go in for some serious kayaking. Amateurs take out their kayaks on still waters. If you like a little adventure go kayaking on rivers. If you are game for more, you can try kayaking on fast flowing rivers and rapids. If you are a beginner at kayaking, it is recommended that you go for kayaking lessons. Look for a certified instructor and get yourself enrolled in your local paddling club.

Sea Kayaking can be an amazing experience. Kayaking in the midst of water reeds, passing through narrow passages between cliffs, exploring unseen parts where larger boats cannot take you is such a pleasant experience. Kayaks have enough space in them to store food and other things that you might want to take with you. You can remain out in the sea for whole days and enjoy kayaking. Go with your spouse or some friends and make the experience a memorable one. Sea kayaking involves some dangers as well but they are not as grave as those in white water kayaking. Make sure you have proper training in kayaking before you go out on the sea on your own. A good training will teach you what dangers to expect while out on the sea and how to combat with them.

If you are considering some serious whitewater kayaking then you must learn to plan for safety as well. Gather information about changing weather conditions, whitewater hazards and water levels. You must know about safe landing places and whom to contact in case of an emergency. Also find out if the river has access to roads and highways. If you are knew to paddling and are going for whitewater kayaking then make sure you have an expert with you. Experienced paddlers generally have their wits about them and they know when they have to stop.

For those who want to go for less adventurous kayaking can go for kayak fishing. Kayaks have an edge over all other types of boats when it comes to fishing. These are small boats that can reach into any corner of the lake or harbor. Plus kayaks don’t make any noise or disturbance that would drive the fishes away. Enjoy boating and fishing together with kayaking.

Try to keep within your limits when you go kayaking.. Go for less dangerous forms of the games to be safer. Kayaking on dangerous rivers has caused fatalities in the past. There is no dearth of risk takers around us. They risk their lives for the enjoyment of this game. There are many kayaking competitions held where experts show their mettle. Some of these events involve highly dangerous stunts. Paddlers taking part in such events are professionals have years of experience and a lot of training even then there have been causalities. If you go for safe kayaking, nothing can be a more enjoyable experience.
